My Morning Routine as a Mompreneur & Content Creator

I'm not really a fan of the word "mompreneur" but here we are.
My morning routine has had to be flexible throughout the years. When I started building businesses and creating content, I had a 4 month old. I was trying to figure out how to feed another human full time all while balancing naptimes, taking care of the house and feeding myself. It was wild, y'all! IYKYK.
But now, I have teenagers. My kids are 16, 14, and 11. I'm not dealing with naptimes and Lego scattered all over the floor. But, I'm still in the throughs of parenthood all the same. I mean, I have one kid driving so. That's where we are at. *passes out *
All this to say, my morning routine has been consistent in that I have ALWAYS had a morning routine. Always. This is not something I was flexible about having. It was mandatory to have a routine every day that worked for me and set me up well for the day, no matter what season I was in. But what I DID in that morning routine has had to be flexible.
For the season I am in now, this is what I am currently doing for my morning routine as a content creator and busy mom who works around the clock. (I don't really work around the clock, but it feels like it sometimes.) This morning routine that I currently have has been my morning routine for probably the past two years straight. Keep in mind as you read this, I have big kids. If you have toddlers, don't walk away from this discouraged if your morning can't look exactly like mine. Don't forget what I said in the last post about comparison. ;)
Just keep showing up and doing what works for YOU. Here's what I do.
I wake up early every day. During the school year, I'm up at 5:00 am and during the summer it's 7:30 am. I let myself sleep in a little during the summer because teenagers like to stay up late and they are loud. IYKYK. Waking up early is not in my nature. I had to really train myself to do this. Early in the morning is the only time I can absolutely guarantee that my house will be quiet so I can drink my coffee, so it became essential to wake up before everyone else.
Next, I brew my coffeee on my Nespresso. I love Nespresso, specifically the Rich Chocolate coffee pods. It's not sweet, but just has a hint of chocolate and I don't know, it's glorious. I add 1 packet of Stevia and 2 Tbsp vanilla creamer and bam. Amazing. I have always made it a priority to drink an entire cup of HOT coffee each and every morning. The entire thing. It doesn't go cold and I don't have to heat it back up later. I get up each morning early to prioritize this entire cup of coffee because I love it, it's quiet time for me, and it feels luxurious. It helps me to feel fully awake and human so it's important to me.
While my coffee is brewing, I take my dog outside and I do a few stretches. I also let the sun hit my face to soak in the vitamin D. Unless it's winter and dark out, then I stretch later. I've had back issues for a long time but stretching daily helps me to feel my best and keeps my back loosened up.
Once my coffee is ready, I find a snuggly spot on the couch and I read my Bible. Right now, I'm reading the entire Bible in a year. I did that last year with my church and it changed my life. So, I'm doing it again. Reading my Bible is a deep habit that I started in high school. I really just can't go a day without it.
After I read my Bible, I start checking in on my clients and getting some of the content I've created in Canva posted on various accounts. I check analytics, check my calendar, and make a plan for any content I need to create that day. I also start posting for The Content Maven's Instagram and also YouTube.
Once I've done all of that, it's typically time to get moving. I will go and wash my face, using mostly Good Molecules brand that I found on Amazon because it's awesome. My skincare routine is rigid and I do it every single day, twice a day. I cleanse, tone, add serums, eye cream, moisurizer, and then tinted moisturizer with SPF. Then, I apply the rest of my makeup.
If it's during the school year, this is when my kids start getting up and getting ready for school. If it's summer, they're likely sleeping in. Regardless, I make breakfast and make a plan for when I am going to get my workout in. During the school year, I go to barre classes. During the summer, I swim in my backyard.
Once the kids are at school or once I've had breakfast, I do a little bit more work! I generally work about 4 hours a day. Two days a week I work at a dentist office which has given me some face to face time with other adults and gotten me out of the house. I love it. If I finish up work at home, then I clean, walk my dog, nap, watch Netflix, go get my nails done. Nothing fancy, but it's a good life.
So that's it! It's simple and it's consistent. It's something I genuinely look forward to. When my head hits the pillow, I find myself so excited to get up before everyone, brew my coffee and enjoy my quiet home. It hasn't always been that way. For years, I struggled with depression and would go to bed feeling so overwhelmed at having to wake up and do the tasks of the day all over again. What I found is that creating a morning routine for myself has contributed to a mental shift and helped that morning dread to fade.
It didn't happen overnight, but I stayed consistent and got up many days when I would have rather stayed in bed. God blessed my efforts because it helped to shift my mindset and now I truly find joy in each and every morning.
If you don't have a routine or don't know where to start, my encouragement is this: start small. Start with something that you can commit to doing EVERY day. Maybe you're only waking up 15 minutes before everyone in your house instead of hours earlier. But you know what? 15 minutes is 15 minutes. And that quiet house to just be with yourself and enjoy some hot coffee before chaos ensues might be exactly what you need.
Find what works for you and stick to it. Morning routines are the GOAT, but you have to figure out what is best for you and your family. Start small, stay consistent, and keep going. It's a huge part of why I can create so much content every day. And that's because I've given myself space to BE before I dive into work or motherhood. And that, has been a really big gift.
Give it a try! It might just change your life!
You've got this!
