The Easiest Way to Figure Out What Your Audience Wants

You have ideas. You’re not short on passion. You know you can help people…But somehow, the connection between what you offer and what your audience wants still feels blurry.
And the truth? Most content creators and business owners don’t struggle because they’re unskilled or unmotivated. They struggle because they’re creating content in a vacuum. They're guessing, hoping, overthinking, and not actually asking.
The easiest way to figure out what your audience wants? Ask them. But then you have to listen.
Simple? Yes. But most people don’t actually do it. Or they do it in a way that doesn’t give them usable insight. So let’s break this down into something clear and actionable so you can stop guessing, start connecting, and create content that actually clicks.
And it will click; it's not rocket science but there IS a science to it.
Ask Better Questions (and Know Where to Ask Them) The key to starting to uncover what your audience wants isn’t just asking more questions, it’s asking the right ones, in the right places. Start with this simple prompt: “What’s the biggest thing you’re struggling with when it comes to [your niche/topic]?” You can use this one question in so many ways:
In your Instagram Stories (with the question box)
At the bottom of your emails
In a casual DM with a warm lead
As a poll inside a Facebook group
In a blog post or on your website
Keep the language natural and open-ended. This isn’t about using a “market research” voice. It’s about talking like a human. You’re not interrogating your audience. You’re inviting them to share.
And when they do? Pay attention to their exact words. Don’t immediately translate them into polished marketing speak. Their raw phrasing is actual GOLD. That’s what you want to mirror in your content.
Look at What’s Already Working One of the easiest ways to know what your audience wants is to look at what they’re already responding to. Go back through your own content and ask yourself:
What got the most saves or shares?
What sparked replies or DMs?
What blog posts or pins bring in the most traffic?
Sometimes we ignore our own proof. We write off the post that did well as a fluke or think, Yeah, but I already said that. But often, the content that hits is the clearest clue about what your audience is craving more of. You don’t always need to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes you just need to say the same thing, better, deeper, or even in a new format.
Pay Attention to What They’re Asking Others Your audience isn’t only talking to you. They’re out there Googling questions, commenting on Reels, posting in Facebook groups, saving Pins, and asking for help in quiet ways. If you really want to understand what they want, go find where they’re already talking.
Try this:
Search a keyword related to your niche on Pinterest or Google. What autocomplete suggestions show up? That’s what people are searching for.
Dive into Reddit or Quora and read what people are asking in your industry.
Watch the comments section of other creators who serve a similar audience, especially where people are asking for clarity or advice.
This isn’t about copying. It’s about observing. Getting out of your own bubble. Listening in the wild.
When you combine what people are searching for with what you uniquely offer? That’s where your content finds its spark.
Follow the Frustrations Want to know what someone wants? Look at what’s frustrating them. Most buying decisions (and content clicks) start with a pain point. A pain point is something someone is tired of dealing with. If you can name that frustration better than they can, they’ll trust you to help solve it.
Ask yourself:
What does your audience wish was easier?
What are they wasting time or money on?
What keeps them stuck or second-guessing?
Your content should help remove friction. You’re not just here to teach. You’re here to make things clearer, faster, better, or more doable for the person on the other side of the screen. If you can do that? You’ll never wonder what to post again.
Knowing what your audience wants isn’t about guessing harder. It’s about listening better.
Ask real questions. Use real words. Pay attention to patterns. And remember: you don’t have to speak to everyone, you just have to speak clearly to your people. When you do that, your content stops feeling like a shot in the dark and starts becoming the thing people save, share, and come back for.
