What Actually Drives Traffic to Your Content in 2025

What used to work five years ago (or even one year ago) isn’t always what works now. Platforms have shifted. Algorithms have evolved. Audiences are more discerning. And “just post and hope for the best” doesn’t cut it anymore. But here’s the good news: driving traffic to your content is still possible AND it's simpler than most people think.

It doesn’t require going viral. It doesn’t require posting every single day. It doesn’t even require being on every platform.

It requires clarity, consistency, and a willingness to stop guessing and start being strategic. Here’s what’s actually driving traffic in 2025 and what YOU can do about it.

  1. Keyword-Driven Content Still Wins, But Not Just for SEO Yes, SEO matters. But keywords aren’t just for blog posts anymore. In 2025, platforms like Pinterest, YouTube, and even Instagram rely heavily on searchability. That means when you create content (whether it’s a Reel, a Pin, a caption, or a carousel) using the right words makes all the difference.

It’s not about cramming keywords everywhere. It’s about understanding what your audience is actually searching for and creating content that answers those questions.

    Ask yourself:

    • What would someone type if they were looking for what I offer?

    • What exact phrases do my people use to describe their problem?

If you’re not building content around keywords, you’re building content in the dark. Straight out the gate, if you need help with this, I have a powerful guide called The Traffic Keyword Kit that will be a game changer for your business! Check it out here.

  2. Pinterest is Back and Quietly Powerful To be totally honest, Pinterest never LEFT. lol While other platforms have become noisier, Pinterest has been steadily evolving into a top-of-funnel traffic machine again.

Why? Because it’s not a social platform, it’s a visual search engine.

People go to Pinterest looking for ideas, answers, and inspiration and they leave with clicks, saves, and links. It’s one of the few platforms where content has a long shelf life. A pin you post today can bring traffic six months (or even two years) from now.

If you’re not pinning your content in 2025, you’re missing one of the easiest ways to drive sustainable traffic with less effort. I have guide for Pinterest too. When I started The Content Maven, I taught mostly on Pinterest. I love Pinterest because it is so powerful. If you need help or have questions, start here.

  3. Short-Form Video Is Still Strong but Strategy > Trend Hopping Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts... they’re not going anywhere. But what’s working now isn’t just following trends or using trending audio.

    It’s clarity.

The content that drives traffic in 2025 quickly answers a question, solves a problem, or clearly points to the next step. That might be a website, a lead magnet, a product, or another piece of content.

Short-form video is not just for entertainment anymore. It’s a powerful traffic driver when it’s paired with a clear CTA and purposeful content. If your videos are getting views but not clicks, go back and ask: Am I making it obvious where to go next? If you're not, then start there.

  4. Email Is Still the Most Reliable Platform Algorithms change. Platforms glitch. Engagement drops. But your email list? That’s yours.

What’s driving traffic in 2025 isn’t just building a list, it’s what you do with it. People don’t want more fluff in their inboxes. They want value. They want honesty. They want something that helps them move forward, faster.

Your email list should be the bridge between your content and your offers. Don’t just send emails to stay “top of mind.” Send emails that make people want to click. Think of it like this: If social media is your introduction, email is the ongoing conversation. And that’s where real traffic (and conversions) happen. Join my email list HERE. I sent emails out on Monday and I am constantly working to make sure they're packed with value for you and that I'm expanding on all things content creation.

  5. Clarity Over Chaos

This might be the most important point. The content that drives traffic in 2025 is the content that’s clear. Clear on who it’s for, what it offers, and what the next step is. Too many creators are stuck in the loop of:

    • Creating for the algorithm

    • Changing their niche weekly

    • Offering too many things

    • Speaking to everyone and connecting with no one

If you’re not getting traffic, the first place to look isn’t your posting schedule, it’s your message. Clear messaging plus targeted keywords plus consistent content will equal traffic that actually builds something.

In 2025, traffic doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from doing the right things and on purpose.

So if your numbers are low, don’t panic. Don’t start over. Don’t scrap your strategy just yet.

Instead, zoom out. Refocus. Ask yourself:

  • Is my message clear?

  • Am I using the right keywords?

  • Am I showing up where people are searching, not just scrolling?

  • Am I giving people a next step?

Because when you get those things right? That’s when the traffic starts to move and the right people start to find you.
