If you’ve spent any time online lately, you’ve probably noticed that AI is everywhere. It can write captions, generate images, edit videos, and even help plan your entire content strategy. While those tools can be incredibly helpful, they’ve also left many small business owners asking the same question: Will there still be room for people like me?
According to Instagram’s Head, Adam Mosseri, the answer is yes. And it’s not just yes, but perhaps more than ever.
In a recent interview, Mosseri shared that as AI-generated content becomes more common, authentic human creators will become increasingly valuable. His belief is that people will continue to seek out real experiences, genuine opinions, and meaningful relationships—the kinds of things AI simply can’t create. As artificial intelligence fills our feeds with more content, authenticity may become one of the most valuable things a creator has.
I have to say, I think he’s right.
For years, social media seemed to reward polished perfection. The beautifully curated feed, the flawless graphics, and the perfectly edited videos often felt like the standard we all had to chase. But now that AI can create content that looks polished in a matter of seconds, perfection isn’t nearly as impressive as it once was.
What stands out today is the person behind the account.
Your experiences, your perspective, your sense of humor, and the lessons you’ve learned through building your business are things no AI tool can genuinely replicate. Those are the things your audience connects with because they remind people there’s a real human on the other side of the screen.
One point Mosseri made really resonated with me. He explained that Instagram has never just been about the content itself. It’s been about the people creating it. As AI-generated content becomes more common, he believes those personal connections will become even more important. That’s encouraging news for anyone who has ever worried they weren’t polished enough or professional enough to grow online.
This doesn’t mean AI is the enemy. I use AI almost every day, and I genuinely believe it’s one of the best productivity tools available to business owners. It helps me organize ideas, research topics more efficiently, and speed up my writing process. But I also believe AI works best as an assistant, not as your replacement.
AI can help you write a first draft, but it can’t share the story behind why you started your business. It can suggest a caption, but it doesn’t know the client who changed your perspective or the mistake that taught you your biggest lesson. It doesn’t have your personality, your values, or your unique way of explaining things. Those are the qualities that build trust, and trust is something no algorithm can manufacture.
If you’re wondering how to stand out in a world that’s producing more AI-generated content every day, I don’t think the answer is creating more content. I think it’s creating more you.
Share the lessons you’ve learned. Talk about the conversations you’re having with clients. Tell the stories behind your work. Offer your opinions on trends in your industry. Show the behind-the-scenes moments that remind people there’s a real person running your business.
Those are the things people remember.
One of the biggest mistakes I see business owners make is believing they need to sound like everyone else online. They wait until their graphics are perfect, their office is spotless, or they have the perfect script before they hit publish. Meanwhile, the creators who are building loyal communities are often the ones willing to show up consistently as themselves.
In many ways, I think AI is making authenticity even more valuable. When anyone can generate content in seconds, the businesses that stand out won’t necessarily be the ones producing the most content. They’ll be the ones creating content that feels personal, honest, and genuinely helpful.
So if you’ve been worried that AI is going to replace creators, I’d encourage you to see it differently. Let AI help you save time. Let it help you brainstorm ideas or organize your thoughts. But don’t let it replace the one thing your audience can only get from your business. They can get information almost anywhere.
They can only get you from you.
The future doesn’t belong to the creators who use the most AI. It belongs to the creators who know how to use AI without losing what makes them human. That’s your stories, perspective, personality and… your voice.
AI can help you create content faster, but only you can create content that sounds like you. And I have a feeling that’s exactly what people will be looking for in the years ahead.

FAQ Section
Will AI replace content creators?
Probably not. While AI can automate many creative tasks, authentic human experiences, opinions, and relationships remain valuable. Instagram’s Adam Mosseri believes those qualities will become even more important as AI-generated content becomes more common.
Should small businesses use AI for content creation?
Yes. AI is an excellent tool for brainstorming ideas, organizing information, and improving efficiency. However, it works best when it enhances your voice rather than replacing it.
Why is authenticity important in marketing?
Authenticity builds trust. Customers are more likely to buy from businesses they feel connected to, and sharing your experiences, perspectives, and personality helps create those relationships.
What makes authentic creators different from AI?
Authentic creators bring personal experiences, unique opinions, stories, and genuine relationships to their content; things AI cannot truly replicate.
